DeathWing is a Metroid-Vania inspired level which was developed using Unreal Engine 4 blueprints. This game sees the player controlling a vampire that navigates around a castle, forge and flying buildings. Players will fight a variety of enemies using a variety of attacks and abilities that is based of mana and ammo. Also, they will encounter unforgiving traps that will try to silence the vampire any chance they get. It is a level design project which had me focused on balancing, tweaking, testing and implementing mechanics as part of an existing framework. This project really made me fall in love with level design and helped me understand some of the core systems that goes into these games.

My duties and responsibilities


  • Tweaking and balancing existing character mechanics

  • Creating new pickups and balancing them

  • Balancing enemy stats such as health, damage and their levels

  • Creating a second form that the player can posses and use for diverse gameplay

  • Balanced the player progression by adding enemy level up system

  • Creating top down level designs using Photoshop

  • Mapping out placement of traps, enemies and pickups

  • Using maps to map flow, pace and the user experience

  • Conducting playtesting to refine my level design and balance mechanics.
